Why are this year's elections different?

The european elections in May will let the voters help to make better or change the direction Europe has taken at the time to fight the economic crisis, as many other things that affect the daily life of the citizens.

For the fist time, the European Parliament members will decide who will direct the following European Comission, the executive organ of the EU, has the legislative initiative and controls its application.

This year, the leader of the European Comission will be chosen by the leaders of the political groups through voting.

The plenum of the European Parliament will choose the new president of the Comission by half of all the eurodeputies.
These will choose their own candidates to the presidence of the Comission.

The new political majority that will appear from the election will also give shape to the european law during the following five years.
The Parliament - the unique institution of the EU directly chosen - is now the main idea of the European system that takes decisions and has the same power as the government.

Now the voters will have more importance than ever.
